Annular Tears

Consider the outer portion of your disc as the fibers of a car’s radial tire. The natural aging process, wear and tear, or trauma causes annular tears. Almost everyone develops annular tears before the age of 20. Sometimes these tears cause symptoms and sometimes they don’t.

Leaky Disc Syndrome

Leaky Disc Syndrome is a term coined by Dr. Pauza because he found himself continuously explaining to patients how their pain or symptoms were likely caused by inner portion of the disc to leak onto the spinal nerves, causing inflammation and pain.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) isn’t actually a disease. Most discs become degenerated from normal wear and tear that have torn the discs, causing them to leak over time, becoming dark and flat.

Herniated Disc

A herniated disc is the result of tears of the disc’s annulus fibrosus (outer section) allowing the nucleus pulposus (inner jelly section) to leak through the disc.

Most herniated discs are found in the lower back (the lumber section).

Chronic Low Back Pain

Any pain lasting longer than six months is considered chronic pain. The most common cause is a torn disc or discs. Facet joint arthritis is a less common cause of chronic low back pain. Treatment should only be considered if it interferes with everyday life.

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain radiating down the leg along the path of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is not caused by a pinched nerve, but in reality is caused by a torn disc which leaks onto a nerve, thus causing inflammation and pain.

How Does Discseel Compare?

Surgery

Surgery

Invasiveness

Non-invasive approach without surgical
incisions or hardware implants, minimizing
tissue damage and promoting quicker recovery.

Non-invasive approach without surgical
incisions or hardware implants, minimizing
tissue damage and promoting quicker recovery.

Recovery Time

Short recovery time, allowing most individuals
to resume light activities within 24 hours and
gradually increase activity levels as comfort allows.

Lengthy recovery period spanning several
months to a year, often involving restricted
movements and physical therapy to aid healing.

Targeted Treatment

Targets specific disc tears, sealing the tissue so
that natural healing and tissue regeneration can
occur, aiming to preserve mobility and disc
function.

Addresses spinal instability by fusing vertebrae,
which limits mobility at the fused area,
potentially transferring stress to adjacent discs.

Risks and Complications

Minimizes risks associated with invasive
surgeries, focusing on sealing and repairing disc
tears without the complications of hardware
placement or extensive tissue disruption.

Risks include infection, blood clots, nerve
damage, and potential failure of fusion leading to
persistent pain and the need for revision surgery

Long Term Outcomes

Aims for natural healing and preservation of disc
function, potentially offering sustained relief
without compromising spinal mobility or
necessitating further interventions.

While effective in stabilizing the spine, may
result in limited mobility, altered spinal
mechanics, and potential stress on adjacent
discs, necessitating future surgeries.
